The Department has three main business responsibilities:
The Board of Directors is made up of a non-executive chair, seven non-executive directors, the Chief Executive and four Executive Directors. Executive directors are employees of the HSC Board.
The PHA board of directors is made up of a non-executive Chair, the Chief Executive, six Non-Executive Directors and three Executive Directors. Executive Directors are employees of the PHA.
There are 5 LCGs in Northern Ireland (see map).
Each LCG is responsible for the commissioning of health and social care by addressing the care needs of their local population. They also have responsibility for assessing health and social care needs; planning health and social care to meet current and emerging needs; and securing the delivery of health and social care to meet assessed needs.
