The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines and vaccines. We represent companies of all sizes who invest in discovering the medicines of the future.
Our members supply cutting edge treatments that improve and save the lives of millions of people. We work in partnership with Government and the NHS so patients can get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan how much it spends on medicines.
Every day, we partner with organisations in the life sciences community and beyond to transform lives across the UK.
To work towards the vision and considering the specific needs, ongoing work and expertise in the MHPG, the objectives to address in 2021 are:
The ABPI is currently looking for two people to help with national work to increase the opportunities for pregnant and breast-feeding women to access appropriate drug treatments.
Currently women who are pregnant or breast feeding do not tend to get involved in trials of new treatments, and drugs tend not to be developed for women suffering from problems related to pregnancy. We are trying to enhance the development of new treatments for pregnancy related conditions and conditions that happen to occur during pregnancy. This will require a change in the culture for new drug development, funding for trials during pregnancy and willingness to be involved in such studies.
There is a huge amount of work to do if we are going to make advances and ensure that women have the treatments they deserve during pregnancy and breast feeding. We would like to obtain the help of two experts by experience that would be interested in helping advise and guide us as we improve the culture and help guide policy development in this area.
There is one meeting every 2-3 months, the usual length 2h. This Project is likely to run into 2022.
